Pencarrow House and gardens

Information for Visitors with Limited Mobility

Please call in at the Gift Shop (situated in the main car park) and let them know of any particular requirements you may have for your visit.

  • Parking - we have disabled parking available just outside the House Entrance.  There are also places to park just outside the tea rooms.  Please call into the Gift Shop situated in the main car park and they will direct you.
  • The Peacock Cafe, Gift and Plant Shop are fully accessible.
  • Toilets – we have a unisex disabled toilet.
  • House Tours – ramps are available to allow wheelchairs access into the main House.  There are seats available in most of the rooms on the tour for those who cannot stand for long periods of time.  For those who cannot manage the stairs, we are able to offer access to a DVD of the upstairs part of the tour.
  • Gardens - the paths are hard, gravelly and mostly level but the Gardens are listed and old, so we ask for your understanding that it is not all tarmac! There are gentle slopes on the walk to the American Gardens but wheelchair users with strong arms or motors have said it is worth the effort! There are 2 ramps onto and off the grass on the East Lawn. There are steps around the garden. We have a leaflet at the Gift Shop which shows you where these are. The more robust mobility scooters may be able to access the slopes to the lake, however the smaller less sturdy scooters may struggle to cope with the terrain.
  • Guide Dogs are welcome.
  • Wheelchairs – we have one wheelchair available for use.  It is advisable to book this ahead of your visit.  Please telephone 01208 841 369.
  • SADLY WE REGRET DUE TO SAFETY THAT WE CAN NO LONGER ALLOW MOBILITY SCOOTERS INSIDE THE HOUSE. We do have a wheelchair to use and of course your own wheelchair is allowed.

Dogs are most welcome in the gardens at Pencarrow. There are designated shady car parking spaces in the car park for dog owners. Should you have difficulty in finding a shady space, please call into the Gift Shop and they will advise on the best place to park. Please do not leave your dog inside the car on warm and sunny days. We ask that dogs are kept on a lead around the immediate vicinity of the house and Peacock Cafe. However, once you are approaching the woodland walks, please do let your dogs off the lead for a good run.

We ask that you do not take them into the Peacock Cafe, but they are welcome in the seated area outside and also in the picnic area. Water bowls are available outside the Gift Shop and the Cafe. The dog poo bin is located at the entrance to the car park. Don't forget to reward your dog with a complimentary dog biscuit from the Gift Shop!

We are able to cater for promotional events, conferences, receptions, VIP dinners, marquees and open air entertainment.  The Old Servants Hall is an ideal conference room seating 40 and is available all year round.  Simple buffets and light refreshments can be provided in-house.  Guided house tours can be incorporated into your event. We are always pleased to adapt to suit clients’ individual requirements and look forward to discussing your event with you (01208 841 369).
